Released on 1 June 2017.
Horisumi - Winter is the second release in a series of four rare gins made in collaboration with acclaimed tattoo artist Kian Forreal (Horisumi), each inspired by a different Japanese season.
For this release, the hand-illustrated label depicts a snow-capped Mount Fuji, inky green pine branches and a hawk keeping watch beneath the glow of a full moon. It was this moody, atmospheric scene that informed the distillates that went into making this distinctive gin.
To capture all the crisp freshness of a Japanese winter in Horisumi - Winter, our distillers incorporated the maritime salinity of Tasmanian kombu, the herbaceous sweetness of Australian Fuji apples and, in a first for Archie Rose, the infusion of two Japanese green teas - aromatic sencha and savoury genmaicha. On the palate, you’ll notice a contrast between salty and sweet - a nod to the flavour elements found in Japanese cuisine.
To serve, try it with Fever Tree’s Elderflower Tonic, or accentuate its savoury kombu notes in a Dirty Martini.
Note: As with Horisumi - Autumn, the first 200 bottles sold will come hand-wrapped in a custom-made Japanese furoshiki wrap featuring the individual bottle number and winter kanji. Unfortunately the first 200 bottles featuring the furoshiki wrap have now sold out.
