Our Story
Guided by our belief in transparency, we’re proud to openly share the ethos behind what, how and why we do things with an unwavering drive to universally expand people’s knowledge and appreciation of spirits and hospitality.
Founded in 2014 by Will Edwards and located in Sydney, Australia – just a few kilometres south of the city – Archie Rose Distilling Co. is Australia’s most highly awarded distillery driven by four values including Innovation, Authenticity, Education and Quality.
With conviction, we strive to re-define Australia’s rich tradition in distilling by producing a diverse range of whiskies, gins, vodkas and rums, as well as one-off collaborations, limited releases and spirits experiences.
In all that we produce, we find continual inspiration in the quality and diversity of the crops and produce grown across Australia. We’re proud to be forging an authentic new tradition that’s boldly innovative and true to its roots.

Will Edwards
In 2014 Will Edwards founded Archie Rose Distilling Co. in Rosebery, Sydney - just five kilometres from the city - with a goal of being the world’s best producer of Australian whisky, gin and other spirits and spirits experiences, showcasing the highest quality Australian ingredients.
Will's passion for spirits began in his early 20s while experimenting with homebrew, spirit based infusions and oak maturation, and reading up on the chemistry and engineering that underpins distillation whilst at university. At 24, after an early career in management consulting at Deloitte, Will left his job travelling to New York and Tasmania to explore why there weren’t more distilleries in Australia and specifically in Sydney.
Will now leads a team of 110 passionate spirits lovers who together have contributed to Archie Rose winning over 400 global awards. Will himself has been named Australia’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Global Young Achiever of the Year and a Forbes 30 under 30 winner.

The Archie Rose team includes more than 100 passionate spirits lovers who together have contributed to Archie Rose winning over 400 global awards including: World’s Best Rye Whisky four times; Australia’s best Single Malt Whisky eight times; World's Best Contemporary Gin; and other global and local accolades including the AFR's Most Innovative Retail, Hospitality and Tourism Company and Spirits Business’s Most Innovative Distillery in the world award.
The calibre and diversity of the Archie Rose team is reflected in the quality of our spirits but also in the passion in which we share them with our friends and with the world.
History of Archie Rose

Where it all started
2014Archie Rose founder, Will Edwards, always had a passion for spirits, experimenting with homebrew, spirit-based infusions and oak maturation whilst reading up on the chemistry and engineering that underpins distillation whilst at Sydney Uni. After an early career in management consulting Will left his corporate job at Deloitte travelling to New York and Tasmania to answer the question that had intrigued him for many years – why weren’t there more distilleries in Australia? Fast-forward to 2014 and Archie Rose opened its doors in Rosebery, Sydney, and has since become Australia’s most highly awarded distillery winning over 400 global awards for crafted Australian whisky, gin, vodka, rum and tailored spirits experiences.
Australian Provenance
2014This desire to create spirits that are distinctly Australian is what has set in motion our ethos of ethically sourcing Australian ingredients direct from growers across the country to create exceptional products with natural and native ingredients.
Archie Rose Bar & Cellar Door, Rosebery
2015The doors to the Archie Rose Bar & Cellar Door swung open in March 2015 and as our original home, it’s where you can sit back and enjoy the literal years of work that have gone into creating our spirits. It also provides such an incredible opportunity to bring together hundreds of thousands of people every year into the world of spirits and give them the opportunity to genuinely get their hands dirty making their own gins and whiskies on site and leaving with a greater understanding and appreciation of what goes into making great Australian spirits.
New Botany Distillery
2020In 2020 we moved to our Botany distillery, designed and literally built from the ground up by Will and master distiller Dave Withers. From the mash filter which allows us to process heavily roasted locally grown malts and even some unmalted native Australian grains to the copper vacuum botanical stills which allow us to completely eliminate the detrimental impacts of heat and cold distil our botanicals which yields far greater clarity of flavour the Botany Distillery is the physical representation of who we are as distillers.

2023As we approach our our tenth year since launch we're extremely proud to be Australia's most highly awarded distillery, making spirits that are evolving Australia’s rich history in distilling to forge an authentic new tradition that’s boldly innovative and true to its roots.
