Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the alcohol percentage of Archie Rose Vodka?

    Down

Please see below the alcohol percentage for our Core Range and Tailored Vodkas:

    • Archie Rose Native Botanical Vodka - 40% Alc/Vol.

    • Archie Rose Tailored Vodka - 40% Alc/Vol.

  • What is Archie Rose Vodka made from?

    Down

Much like our approach to making gin, we begin our vodka production with a 96% alcohol by volume pure wheat spirit, made from Australian wheat.

We then prepare the spirit for further distillation in our copper pot still by cutting it with local Sydney water that has been filtered six times using a variety of processes.

Once the spirit has been cut, we charge our copper pot still for the final distillation run. Our aim during this final run is to heighten the desired natural flavours that make our vodka unique while removing any remaining impurities.

In the end, however, the still is only as good as its distiller and it comes down to experience, intuition and an acute sense of timing – traits our distillers have in spades.

  • What is the best way to drink Archie Rose Vodka?

    Down

Archie Rose Original Vodka can be enjoyed in a variety of ways and is a very versatile spirit. A few suggestions include: neat - straight from the freezer, on the rocks with a squeeze of your favourite citrus and in simple highball style drinks such as vodka, lime & soda or Moscow Mule. It also works very well in the infamous Espresso Martini. You can find a range of Archie Rose cocktail recipes here.

  • Is vodka vegan?

    Down

Feel free to contact our customer service team via info@archierose.com.au if you have any specific questions and we’re happy to assist.

  • Is vodka gluten free?

    Down

The Coeliac Society of Australia states: All alcohol is gluten-free with the exception of beer. Please note however that whilst the distillation process at Archie Rose Distilling Co. should remove all traces of gluten from the spirits rendering them “gluten-free”, the fact that they are produced in a distillery that makes whisky and therefore stores tonnes of different grains and malts onsite, means there is a risk of cross-contamination. This is why we don’t list our spirits as “gluten-free” and we recommend customers seek their doctor’s advice.

  • How long does Archie Rose Vodka last, can it expire?

    Down

As long as the bottle is kept out of direct sunlight and not exposed to extreme temperatures and sealed correctly your vodka can last for many years in unopened bottles. In terms of opened bottles, we recommend drinking within 6 months of opening, as spirits will lose some flavour/character over time. This really depends on a couple of factors such as the size of the bottle, the ABV of the spirit, and the amount of spirit remaining in the bottle versus the air that has been introduced.

  • Where can I buy Archie Rose Vodka?

    Down

You can purchase Archie Rose Vodka via our website or see a range of stockists here.

  • I thought Vodka was made from potatoes?

    Down

Most vodka isn’t made from potatoes. In fact, vodka wasn’t even originally made from potatoes as potatoes didn’t make it to the European Continent until the 16th Century when Spanish Conquistadores brought them back from Peru. Grains such as rye, barley and wheat are common base ingredients for vodka. Most modern vodka is grain-based, though some are made from grapes, whey, sugar or sugar beet, and yes, even potatoes. All you need to make vodka is a sugar source that is able to ferment. The character of the base ingredient can impact the final product, with wheat-based vodka often lighter and whey or potato-based vodka being creamier.

  • Is Archie Rose Original Vodka flavourless?

    Down

Archie Rose uses a small copper pot still to produce its Original Vodka in small batches - which creates a vodka with texture and weight. Using pure Australian wheat and twice carbon-filtered Sydney water, our Original Vodka leads with a subtle, natural sweetness followed by crisp apple and mint notes that delicately linger. More commonly, the Coffey or column still system is what we have to thank for most of the high volume, flavourless vodka in the world today.

As a column still can run continuously (it’s also called a “continuous” still), the alcohol keeps moving through the system, stripping out impurities and also congeners that may impart flavour. Vodka does have a reputation of being a colourless, odourless and flavourless spirit, although, in truth, different vodkas can display a range of different aromas and flavours (sometimes subtle) fragrances, texture, and even sweetness. The base ingredient used, type of still and method of production will all ultimately influence the final flavour in a vodka.

  • Where does the word vodka come from and what does it mean?

    Down

Vodka comes from the Slavic word for water, voda. The name vodka is a diminutive form of this word, interpreted as little water. This is actually similar to whisky - which comes from the Gaelic uisge beatha, or “water of life.”

  • How many calories are there in Archie Rose Vodka?

    Down

Vodka is considered a lower-calorie option when compared to wine or beer. The more concentrated your vodka is (i.e. the higher the ABV), the more calories it contains. For 45ml of vodka at 40% ABV, you’re looking at approximately 96 calories (401kJ).
