A full year ahead of its scheduled launch, a work-in-progress cask sample of Archie Rose Distilling Co.’s Rye Malt Whisky was judged Australia’s Best Whisky, winning Gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London.
The road to launching our first whisky is long, we know (but it’ll be worth the wait!). Right now, however, we’re thrilled to launch Six Malt New Make, a first glimpse of how our Single Malt Whisky starts its life.
This list is a little dishonest. For starters the greatest whisky drink is a nip of whisky. Served neat in a glass designed for the purpose. But if we want to look at the whisky drinks worth mixing there are a few contenders for greatest whisky cocktail of all time.
The New York Sour is a rye sour with a red wine float. When you substitute the rye for our Six Malt New Make you create something intriguing. The lemon masks some of the sweetness of the spirit and brings out the earthiness of the grain. It’s very good indeed.
I always wanted to make Australian gins and Australian whiskies, plural. It was part of the plan from the very beginning. And what most people wouldn’t realise is that we’ve been distilling and laying down casks of whisky since we started Archie Rose in 2014.
