Bars to throw your support behind, by city
It’s been barely a minute since the doors swung open to the Archie Rose Bar for the first time since March 20—and boy, has it been good to have you all back. It only gets better! With bars around the country now slowly welcoming locals back as restrictions ease, we thought we’d reach out to our brand ambassadors in every state, from Tasmania to Western Australia, for their essential list of bars to throw your support behind.
Archie Rose Bar
Dunning Ave, Rosebery
Round up your friends and swing by for a few cocktails and classic snacks at the Archie Rose Bar. A $30 booking will get you a two-hour session, which is redeemable on our mini menu of signature cocktails and our most popular snacks—visit our online booking system to secure a table. We’ll also be holding a small number of spaces for walk-ins, so if you’re in the area swing on by to see if spots are available at that time.
De Mestre Pl, Sydney
Sydney’s quintessential locals bar—the team is stellar, the drinks are always flowing and the buffalo fried gyoza is delicious!
Harrington Street, The Rocks
Maybe Sammy takes inspiration from the roaring ‘50’s, with all the glamour of an old school hotel bar, without the hotel! An inventive cocktail list (with a sprinkling of theatre) and warm hospitality make this venue one of our faves.
Cleveland St, Redfern
Where else can you feast like a viking to the sounds of hip hop? An extensive whisky selection and beers in horns, all served by a bunch of legends. Winning.
Edinburgh Ave, Canberra
What this bar lacks in size it makes up for in hospitality. Drinks crafted by a crack team of experts, this bar can be hard to find but even harder to leave.
Odgers Ln, Canberra
Canberra’s home of whisky with a stellar selection, an amazing location and more hidden rooms than you can shake a cigar at—it’s always a good time with these cats.
London Cct, Canberra
Some of the best food in Canberra, friendly faces and quality drinks. Bar Rochford is a stalwart of the Canberra scene.
Mr West Bar & Bottleshop
Nicholson St, Footscray
A bar and bottleshop specialising in craft beer, natural wine and quality spirits. Mr West has been at the forefront of the ‘new wave’ of fine spirits in Melbourne’s West, showcasing great hospitality upstairs and a well curated retail offering to take home.
Greeves St. Fitzroy
Local institution priding itself on an all Australian selection of fine booze and house made jaffles. A great local that’s been making guests feel at home and supporting Australian producers for the past 5 years.
Cardigan St, Carlton
Fine pub fare complemented by a well curated selection of wines, craft beers and quality spirits! A true gem of the Melbourne upmarket pub scene, we love The Lincoln just as much as their many devoted regulars.
Battery Point, Hobart
Cocktails, spirits and wines with a strong Australian focus. A stalwart of the Salamanca strip, Society splices classic hospitality and knowledgeable staff with a stellar back bar and ambience you won’t want to leave behind.
Gold Bar, Hobart
Morrison St, Hobart
Tucked away in an old flour mill in the centre of Hobart, this is a speakeasy-style bar with an incredible selection of Australian booze and a strong focus on Tassie producers. It’s full of character with a huge spirits selection and an impressive gin and whisky list in particular, where you’re sure to find something that you’ve never tried before.
William St, Northbridge
One of the original and best small bars of the Perth scene. Great booze, bad chat and burgers from Flipside downstairs brought straight to your table. Open aired rooftop bar makes for nothing but good times. Epic Bloody Mary’s available every Sunday to help dull those post-party blues (aka hangovers).
Nairn St, Fremantle
Beautiful spot in the heart of Freo. Serious drinks, amazing food and architecture that captures your attention. Nothing better than sitting at the bar and having a chat with the crack team of industry professionals behind the bar. There is even live jazz on Sundays. You WILL lose hours in this place.
St Georges Terrace, Perth
Newest small bar in town owned and operated by some of the most awarded bartenders in Perth. This cozy-well hidden gem boasts rich mahogany, old school booze and high fives. They’re here to have a sophisticated party with jaffles and party hats. It may be a little hard to find, but the adventure is part of the fun.
Solomon St, Adelaide
The coolest spot in town for when you’re in the mood to kick on. Amazing late night dive bar complete with obligatory neons, jukebox and pool table. Fantastic array of local spirits and craft brews on tap, served by some of the best. The place to be when all the other spots shut. A lot of places try, but few do it this well.
Hains & Co.
Gilbert Pl, Adelaide
A nautical inspired bar run by some of the biggest legends in town, and recognised as one of the best in Australia. Rum and gin are the spirits of choice here, but they’ve got something for everyone (even an array of cigars if that’s your thing!). You know you’re at a good spot when all the other bartenders from town are here!
NOLA CRAFT BEER & WHISKY
Vardon Ave, Adelaide
A heartwarming bar notorious for its formidable whisky collection, excellent craft beer offering and to-die-for hot fried chicken. Add in some good old fashioned hospitality and live tunes and you’ll feel smack bang in the middle of New Orleans. Perfect for an all nighter, or a night cap.
The Gresham Bar
Queen St, Brisbane City
A Queensland icon, with the only heritage bar license in the state, The Gresham offers some of the highest calibre rum, whisky and wine in the country, with an extensive and artistic cocktail list (the ‘Juice Cleanse’ with Archie Rose Signature Dry Gin is definitely one to try!). I can’t wait to be propped up at the bar here, with a drink in hand, watching the world go by.
Gold Coast Hwy, Burleigh Heads
Rosella’s has been bringing all things Australiana to the Gold Coast for more than a year now, serving up nostalgic and native fare along with a host of cocktails, natural wines and tinnies to match.
Mulgrave Rd, Westcourt (Cairns)
Laneway Green is a creative event space and laneway bar. A collaboration between Yankee D’s BBQ and the Cairns Bartenders Network which combines the best of American comfort food with ever evolving cocktails and live music. Matthew Bonasia has driven forward the bartending scene in Cairns over the last few years and a FNQ visit is long overdue!
Kitchener Dr, Darwin City
Snapper Rocks was born from a love of the ocean, Aussie beach culture, as well as amazing local seasonal produce. David Robinson opened Snapper Rocks in 2019 and has spent 20+ years working in hospitality as a highly awarded bartender, with a passion for local produce and Australia producers.
