How I Got Here: Events Planner Emily Bollom
Tell us about your career path and what led you to Archie Rose?
I have always had a passion for events and festivals and love to be organised so it felt natural to study for my Cert III & Diploma of Event Management at TAFE. From there I was able to start a role within Local Government where I worked on a number of community events (even some festivals) along with Australian Citizenship Ceremonies, then onto a larger hospitality group that I was with for a number of years where I managed a large portfolio of venues and all types of events from 21st and Bucks parties to large scale corporate and offsite events! When I saw the opportunity to come up with Archie Rose to work in the Events and Partnerships team, it was everything I was after so I made the transition and have loved it ever since!
What do you love about your job?
No two days are the same, I get to look after a multitude of event types, styles and people which keeps it interesting. The team that I get to work with also makes the days so much better. Feeling supported in your growth, but also to have a nurturing environment with management easily accessible is such a refreshing change of pace.
What is your current role like? What about this role makes you want to get up in the morning?
I am an Event Planner for Festivals & Partnerships, as I am still so fresh to the Archie team. Each day I seem to be learning something new which is always exciting and makes you want to come to work every day!
What does an average week look like for you?
You can find me either at my desk smashing as many emails as possible, in one of our meeting rooms tackling a zoom meeting, onsite visiting with our incredible partners, or getting stuck-in in our events cage packing & prepping for the week's events! From blazers to hi-vis, I get to do it all!
What skills are the most crucial to succeeding in this career? What type of person do you need to be?
Time management is a given in an event management role, but outside of this I think being capable of quickly thinking on your feet and being able to proactively react to whatever the wonderful world of events can throw at you. Being personable & approachable is also very much needed as so much of my time is spent liaising with clients, suppliers & colleagues.
Favourite thing about working for Archie Rose?
Is it bad if I say everything? Working for Archie is like no place I have ever worked before and I love it. But if I have to narrow it down, everyone is so passionate about what they do and just genuinely love their jobs! The sneaky perks of working for a spirits company also don’t go astray!
Most rewarding outcome/experience/challenge yet whilst working for Archie Rose?
Whilst I have been in hospitality since high school, the world of spirits is all new to me. This in itself has been a challenge, but also a great learning experience and cannot wait to see where it takes me.
What is the company culture like at Archie Rose?
The company culture is unlike any other I have experienced. The team is smaller than my previous roles, but rapidly growing - however everyone knows each other, goes out of their way to say hello and it is just genuinely a great place to work!
