Meet Vynka Hallam - the talented Sydney-based artist bringing a touch of local magic to our festive season. Known for her vibrant, expressive works inspired by personal travels, Vynka has created the stunning artwork featured on our limited-edition Christmas packaging this year. From concept to creation, her designs capture the warmth, joy and beauty of the Australian landscape.

Tell me about yourself and your artwork

I was raised in a very creative environment; and as a self-taught artist, I was always encouraged to follow my creative pursuits at home and began drawing in charcoal at a young age. Originally from Perth, my husband and I have been overseas for a while, but now based in Cronulla, Sydney.

What inspires your artwork and process?

Subjects for my art are a diverse fusion of my personal travels and experiences along with memories and encounters with the special individuals I’ve met. I find moments that inspire me, endeavour to capture them and translate it into my art so my audience can experience it as well.

What draws you to certain shapes, colours and patterns?

As an artist, shapes, colours, and patterns are tied to memory. A soft pastel blue might evoke memories from childhood; a simple pattern like stripes can stir up a sense of fun. These visuals become emotional triggers - a way to express what words can’t.

But it’s not all memory - I think it’s instinct, too. We’re wired to respond to certain visuals, and I lean into that. Some colours demand attention, some shapes calm the mind. I use those natural reactions to guide the emotional tone of my work.

What is your favourite thing about the Australian summertime? As an Australian artist, summer carries its own kind of tension - a restless, energy that builds long before it arrives.

There’s something inspiring about the way light stretches in summer, the feeling of the warm air on my skin, the bright blue skies, how colour becomes more golden, how time feels slower yet somehow fuller. The anticipation isn’t just about the season - it’s about capturing the promise of it: the laughter, the escape, the warm quiet in-between moments. It’s the mood before the moment happens.
