Archie Rose Wins Australia's Best Gin at Gin Masters in London 2020
We’re delighted to announce some news hot off the press from London. Our gins have taken out a myriad of honours at The Spirits Business Gin Masters in London – with every single one of our gins awarded including the top accolade of Master Medal for Harvest 2019 Poorman’s Orange Gin, making it the best Australian Gin across all categories. Our limited-edition Archie Rose x Sydney Opera House Outside and Inside Gins as well as our two core gins — Signature Dry Gin and Distiller’s Strength Gin, all claimed Gold Medals.
For a distillery to receive Gold or Master medals for its entire gin range is a particularly rare feat, with a representative from the Spirits Business congratulating the Archie Rose team stating, “these are some of the most impressive results I’ve seen.”
Harvest 2019 Poorman’s Orange Gin launched in February 2020 as the first spirit from a new vintage series that celebrates the bounty and diversity of Australia’s annual harvest, and was limited to a single batch.
Featuring individually distilled Poorman’s orange and bergamot orange peel, emerald green finger lime and lemon scented gum, this gin is bold and complex with a naturally infused orange blossom blush.
Judges described it as “good fun, offering strong honey on the nose followed by citrus, orange blossom and pine.”
Archie Rose x Sydney Opera House Outside and Inside Gins launched in October 2019, created in collaboration with the Sydney Opera House to celebrate the beauty, diversity and creativity of Australia’s leading cultural icon.
Outside Gin is inspired by the Sydney Opera House’s coastal setting and Utzon’s design principles, juxtaposing nature against man-made elements. Framed by the sparkling Sydney Harbour, this architectural wonder balances nature with a magnificent geometric form serving as the inspiration for Outside Gin, a juniper forward gin accented with lemon-scented gum, South Australian yuzu, finger limes, white grapefruit, locally foraged seablite and native seaweed.
Inside Gin celebrates the extraordinary creativity that comes to life daily under the Opera House sails - a place where global cultures and art forms collide. The concept behind this spirit was to create the dynamism you would experience in a play, concert or celebration. This fruit-driven gin displays a bright positive summery character and presents a cast of botanicals including native thyme, Australian apricot, raspberry and strawberry gum.
Signature Dry Gin uses fourteen traditional and native botanicals, each individually distilled in our 300L handmade copper pot still.
Perfectly balanced and wonderfully complex, it’s accented by native Australian botanicals, including blood lime, Dorrigo pepperleaf, lemon myrtle and river mint. All underpinned with pronounced juniper.
Distiller’s Strength Gin is packed with sixteen individually distilled botanicals, including fresh pears from Orange in NSW, rose petals, elderflower, pronounced juniper and distilled honey direct from our local beehives.
Distinguished and complex, Distiller’s Strength is for those who love bigger, bolder flavours.
“Each of these gins is completely unique truly representative of the incredible Australian ingredients we’re lucky enough to have access to,” says Archie Rose founder, Will Edwards.
“With such a diverse, and in the case of some of our Limited Release Gins, unusual and at times confronting range of botanicals and flavours on show in these gins, for our entire range to be awarded Gold or Master Medals at one of the world’s most prestigious gin competitions, is testament to not only the expertise and commitment of our distilling team, but the amazing local producers who share our passion for absolute quality, sustainability and consideration of the impact of their growing, harvesting and processing methods.”
The Gin Masters Awards are part of The Global Spirits Masters – the world’s most highly regarded series of blind tasting competitions. Judged by a panel of independent expert judges including journalists, retail buyers, bartenders and educators, entrants are judged on appearance, aroma, palate and overall balance.
